Get Unstuck by Questioning Limiting Beliefs.
I invite you to think for one moment of something in your life that you really want. Maybe a goal, or a dream that you are struggling to achieve or make happen.
Do you have it in your mind?
Now consider that whatever it is that you want, is not in your life right now because you have a limiting belief that you can’t have it or that you can’t do it.
Maybe if you think about it, this belief might have been playing out for a long time.
I know for me the belief, ‘I can’t do it,’ played out from a very young age.
When I was a child there was a huge slide at an amusement park and I was terrified of it. Kids would literally fling themselves on it like their life depended on it and when I looked down and saw how steep it was, I would take my little behind back the way I came up, backwards down the ladder, to escape to safety.
I wonder what I had been thinking there as I eyed up that slide?
More than likely I was thinking, ‘I can’t.’
The more you think ‘I can’t,’ the more ingrained it becomes until it forms a limiting belief, limiting you from expanding in certain areas of your life.
“A belief is a thought you keep thinking.” Abraham Hicks.
In the past, you most probably have had incidents where you have felt you failed at something, maybe someone belittled you, laughed at you or berated you.
Whatever happened, you have taken in the limiting belief, ‘I can’t.’
Today you are here. You are not in the past. You get to decide now to free your potential from behind the prison bars of your unexamined limiting beliefs.
Thinking ‘I can’t,’ is making you stop when you’re about to elevate. It’s making you collapse inwardly, it’s keeping you at a certain level in life. It’s keeping you mediocre. It’s keeping you safe maybe, comfortable maybe , but you can’t go higher and you’re too clever to go lower, so you’re stuck. You are literally, stuck in the middle.
How can you change it?
Simply start telling yourself, ‘I am.’
‘I am doing this.’
‘I am getting this.’
‘I am,’ claims you are already doing it. Saying, ‘I can’ is casting a doubt as it’s merely a possibility.
So instead, affirm.
Practise saying it in your head again and again and again.
For your whole life you have said you can’t. You have brainwashed yourself into not believing in yourself.
Now you have to brainwash yourself in a positive way, that you are doing it, already. Not only that you can, but that you are, already.
By saying, ‘I AM,’ you affirm that what you want is already in motion, in action.
Do this to help you get going:
Get a piece of paper and challenge limiting beliefs and the thoughts that cement them in, with evidence of the times when you have succeeded or overcome challenges in your past.
Make a list in your journal.
And as you read over your list, start to say in your head “I AM DOING THIS.’
And allow your body to feel the truth and conviction of your inner voice, the powerful and victorious self- aware voice of today.
Keep bringing to mind those incredible things you have accomplished where you pushed past perceived boundaries.
Now bring to mind again the thing you really want and have struggled to achieve/start/do.
Keep repeating the thought, ‘I AM DOING THIS.’
And then this is the key - make a step towards it. Not a big step, just a small one. And keep making those small steps. Keep the promises you make to yourself. You will build self-trust by committing to consistent small steps and you will keep inching forwards, building self-belief as you go.
Remember that ‘I can’t’ is a mental barrier which keeps you small and constricted.
Affirm your greatness instead, and feel yourself and your world start to expand and open up like a flower touched by the warmth, power and presence of the Sun.
